Howdy folks!

Welcome to reeltalkin' - thank you for checking out my little corner of the internet. After a lot of procrastinating and a couple of failed attempts, I finally managed to create an online space where I can indulge in my biggest passion: movies.

Check out my film reviews of the latest cinema releases and more above and come join the movie conversation (casual filmgoers and nerds are all welcome).

My Story

Hi! My name is Emily and I love movies. Above is a slightly cringey photo of me proudly presenting my Film Studies dissertation - a study of the representations of masculinity in 1980s science fiction films. Despite the obvious typos and several mistakes (which I unfortunately noticed AFTER submitting), it was received well by my lovely supervisor and I gained a first class degree after three years of learning everything about the movies. Scary to think that it has already been five years since then...

Ever since I was a shy, introverted little girl, getting lost in a good story (not trying to rip off Vue's slogon here...) and becoming emotionally invested in complex characters has been one of my most sought after experiences in life. I have fond memories of re watching my parents' VHS Star Wars tapes on repeat, rewinding Return of the Jedi so many times without realising I was gradually killing the already grainy picture quality with each watch. Pixar was a shining beacon of my childhood and the movies provided that sweet relief of escapism to any time and anywhere.

From as far back as sixth form, I have always wanted to create my own blog to share my love of film, reviewing movies and sharing my opinion on them. It was quite overwhelming to find the right site and actually create something, but I am finally here and looking forward to seeing what will become of my creative endeavour.

reeltalkin' is my online platform to post reviews of the latest cinema releases (the poor employees at my local Vue must be sick of the sight of me at this point...), as well as any movies I watch at home. These could be films I have not had a chance to see yet (I have quiet the extensive list on my Letterboxd), or ones which I fancy revisiting and talking about.

Thank you for all of your support and please feel free to leave comments on my posts, or get in touch via email and my social media channels. I would love to engage with the online film community and make new connections.

Happy reading!
